Academics

Pettis County R-V School District strives to provide our students with a wide variety of academic opportunities. We see their time here as a chance to teach them the knowledge and skills it takes to succeed and thrive, not only while they are here, but for their futures as well. Not only do we recognize their extraordinary efforts in their classrooms, but in many instances they demonstrate their skills and knowledge beyond this building. A few of the ways our students stand out in academics include, but are not limited to, National Honor Society, National Junior Honor Society, Math Team, and the Scholar Bowl Team.

Many of our students take advantage of the opportunity to enroll in dual credit college courses as well, thus further demonstrating the culture of academic excellence and hard work that is priority her at Northwest. We believe that success in life starts with a good knowledge base and the opportunity to apply it to the real world.

Northwest Honor Roll

Earning a place on a school honor roll is a significant academic achievement that reflects a student’s dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence. Students who qualify for the honor roll must maintain a high GPA, demonstrating strong academic performance across all their classes. This recognition not only boosts confidence and motivation but also enhances college applications and scholarship opportunities.

National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society

National Honor Society (NHS) membership has been the true mark of student achievement for over 100 years, but it goes far beyond a report card. By empowering, championing, and recognizing well-rounded students, NHS provides schools with a values-based framework to elevate a culture of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

NHS chapters operate in all 50 states and many schools around the world, engaging and serving more than 1.4 million students.

Math Team

The Northwest Math Team usually attends four contests a year - Warrensburg High School Math-Science Relays, Smith-Cotton Math Contest, Cole Camp Math Relays, and Kaysinger Conference Math Contest. We usually have between 15 and 20 students each year who are avid Math Team participants.

Beth Harvey has been the High School Math Team Co-Sponsor for 18 years. Her Co-Sponsor is LaChere Marsh.

We always start the morning with Papa Jake's donuts for the bus ride to the contest and have lunch together while awaiting the results to be tabulated.  Naturally, we go somewhere after the contest for celebratory ice cream.  The majority of math contests begin early on Saturdays, so I appreciate the devotion of my students in giving up their free time to attend.  We truly have a great time!

Scholar Bowl

Knowledge is Power

Scholar Bowl is a MSHSAA-supported competition in which students compete against other schools within their district to answer questions covering a wide range of subjects including literature, fine arts, history, mathematics, science, popular culture and everything in-between.

Working individually and as a team, students must answer questions not only accurately, but quickly. It’s a great chance for students to show off what they know!

This Years Schedule

January 16 at Cole Camp (playing Cole Camp and Stover)

January 30 at Northwest (playing La Monte and Green Ridge)
